SEPTEMBER NIGHTS 1947-53

Back for a second season of posting classic prime-time lineups of the tube's first half-century. I kickstarted this "blog" on Friday, September 24th of last year, took a summer hiatus since the end of May, and thought I'd just get back into it for another little while. It'll be more or less the same routine as before, posting lineups from about 1947 to what now will be pushed forward to 1995 from 1993. Expect new lineups two or three times a week, depending on mood. So let's get it all started again right from the beginning, 1947.

TV Nights - The Book

Looks like I now may be getting around to posting more lineups beginning Monday, September 26. Any requests for a particular month and year?

And since I have all the network TV primetime schedules going back to the fall of 1945, there is the possibility of my compiling them into a book or e-book. There would be 240 schedule grids outlining all of the programming that appeared and changes that were made in precise detail. Additionally, there would be separate charts only for the official Fall lineups of each year, as well as complete annual rundowns of Nielsen ratings, various timeline graphs pertaining to fads and genres, and other kinds of relevant, trivial and quirky statistical data. In other words, it would be as comprehensive a book as you can imagine on how primetime was scheduled across six decades. Let me know if this is something that would be of interest to you since I'm making this query as a feasibility study. It may end up costing a publisher a ton of money to produce it even as a softcover 9"x12" book, but on the other hand, it may be more cost-efficient to produce it myself as an e-book and sell it over the net at a much cheaper price. But, I would imagine that e-books themselves might have their own share of headaches to deal with. Ideas, suggestions and advice of any kind are welcome, as one way or another I would like to get to see this thing end up in people's hands sometime within a year.

As for any resumption of this blog, I think I'm waiting till the start of the new TV season, September 19, before I might begin adding new lineups again. Thanks for checking in in the meantime.

A New Season and an Old

Fall 2005 Primetime Network Series Debut and Season Premiere Dates

With the new fall 2005 TV lineup already announced, here's both its rundown and one of 40 years ago, fall 1965, with which to compare the 2005 one. The fall of 1965 was the last one to air black-and-white programming, with about half the shows being in color, and it was, historically, the only fall in which the season premieres of the returning shows and the debuts of the new ones, collectively totalling 99, were all concentrated in one single week of September 13-19.

While I'm still on a more-or-less summer hiatus from this blog, updates and revisions have been and will continue to be ongoing when necessary. With CBS becoming the last network to announce its new season premiere dates, the list below is now complete for all networks.

As for other lineups from other years, check the Archive section below on your right for plenty more of them to peruse, which should keep you quite busy through what's left of the summer.
